A popular site on Old Hickory Lake is Shutes Branch Recreation Area. There are many opportunities for boating, sailing, swimming, biking, hiking and fishing. Nestled back in a peaceful area along the shoreline, Shutes Branch offers visitors the chance to enjoy what the area has to offer.

Regardless of skill level, Shutes Branch Mountain Biking Trail, which can be accessed from the picnic area, is a great trip. Beginners will enjoy the first part of the trail. As the trail goes on to the second portion, it includes rocky terrain, tight turns and ledges for the most experienced rider.

Shutes Branch is right on the water, so it also offers prime locations for fishing and swimming.

A group picnic shelter, with a capacity of 50, is available for gatherings. It does have electric hookups. The area has a parking lot and a boat access ramp. Restroom facilities and drinking water are also available on site. While there is a fishing pier at Shutes Branch, there are additional fishing piers available at Bledsoe Creek State Park, Rockland Sanders Ferry. Various picnic sites throughout the park area.

Shutes Branch is located in the town of Mount Juliet, Tennessee. It is a short distance from The Hermitage, which was the home of President Andrew Jackson.
