Old Hickory Lake

Picnic table

One of many places to sit back and relax on Old Hickory Lake is Rockland Recreation Area. The area offers picnic shelters, a volleyball court, restroom facilities, a visitor center and fishing access. Four picnic pavilions have electric while two do not have electric. Shelter 2A has a kitchen unit, but a key must be picked up from the Resource Manager’s Office during set hours Monday through Friday.

The recreation area is handicap accessible with a fishing dock, boat ramp, toilets, picnic areas, grills and parking spaces all designed to be accessible. The day use area offers plenty of opportunities for activities.

Amenities of the park include:

  • Picnic shelters
  • Volleyball court
  • Restrooms
  • Pavilions
  • Fishing dock
  • Boat ramp
  • Grills
  • Horseshoe pit

There are horseshoe pits, a playground and an area for archery. A public access boat ramp allows for easy lake access. Fishing is also permitted from a dock at the recreation area. The lake is known for bass, crappie, catfish, walleye and sauger. It is a popular location for fishing and boating.

Rockland Recreation Area is in a wooded area that welcomes migratory birds during the winter months. Several wetland species of animals live in the wooded areas along the nature trails that span throughout the area.
