Avondale Recreation Area
If you are interested in watersports and fishing, Avondale is a prime stop for some fun on Old Hickory Lake. With a picnic area on the lakeshore and just a short drive from Nashville, you can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while then go into the city to enjoy what it has to offer. It is also near Hendersonville and other towns with historic districts.
Avondale has one group picnic shelter, which has electric and water hookup. It is also handicap accessible. The shelter can accommodate as many as 50 people. The area has handicap accessible flush toilets and drinking water available. A large parking area is also available on site.

Because of its location on the lake and its boat ramp, Avondale is a favorite stop for fishermen and those who enjoy water skiing. It is also close to Shutes Branch, which has a mountain biking trail, and the 1.1-mile-long Old Hickory Lake Nature Trail. The grounds are also perfect for bird watching or wildlife viewing.
Old Hickory Lake is known for its great bass, walleye, sauger, catfish and crappie fishing. It also provides opportunities for boating, swimming and other water related activities. Avondale is located in Gallatin.
